What is a User-Agent?

The software/browser (the "Agent") that is sending the request to a website is described (at least in part) in a user agent, which is a brief text message. Web browsers submit requests to websites that include the user agent string. The Operating System and Device Type that the Browser/Agent is running on are frequently described in the User Agent.
