Debug Symbols

Definition updated on November 2023

What are debug symbols?

An object file, such as a shared library or an executable, can store extra information in the symbol table by using a specific type of symbol called a debug symbol. A symbolic debugger can use this information to access data from the binary's source code, including the names of identifiers for variables and functions.
